i have a 66 bug and had to buy a different deck lid and hood for it, i got a good deal on a set and the only differece is on the deck lids, it is alll the same accept the t-handle latch..i know the 1300 emblem to that is a easy fix, where can a guy get the part for the latch,.. the catch that goes on the apron and does someone have a picture of one. i have looked on samba.

Oh no it's not the same. The T-handle lid had the inner reinforcement at the bottom, which added weight (read leverage) to the bottom of the decklid. When Volkswagen changed to the pushbutton they eliminated this inner panel, and changed to a weaker spring because there was less leverage when the lid is up. You'll discover the weaker spring has trouble holding the earlier lid open, especially if there's a breeze.

There's a whole long explanation why the lid and spring were changed, mainly having to do with the fact that the older, stiffer spring was causing decklid damage on older cars.
