Hi Brian: Both of the knobs that I have purchased in the past have been on the samba, Another place to try is ebay - they show up on there every once and a while too. You can always try bfyobsoleteparts.com, these guys have old stock items and many times they are not listed on the site - call them and they may be able to help. If all else fails just be patient and you will see one show up on the samba for around 50.00 - 75.00, they are on there on and off throughout the year! Good Luck Brian!
The hard thing to find will be the wheat bulb that goes in the flasher knob if it is burned out - I still haven't figured out where you can get those.

Thats mighty thoughtful of you Scruffy...I do, by the way, already have a working '67 flasher. Sorry for the inconvience, I should have been more clear...Im just looking an original 66 version...
As for the 'wheat' bulb...I know there is a 'wheat styled bulb in a AutoMeter tach that has the small shift light on the face

not sure if its what we need, but it was the first thing i thought of when I saw it...I believe Harley Davidson's uses 'em also...Ill see if I can come up with more info.

Just remember Brian, it needs to be a 6 volt wheat bulb - a 12 volt won't work. It's the only replacement bulb I haven't been able to find! Brian - I'll keep looking around for the flasher knob for you - I stumble onto them on different sites every once and a while. If I see one I'll get in touch with you right away!

Hey Matt - I don't have a 12 volt so I won't be able to help but I'm not sure the wiring would be any different if it were 12 vs. 6 volt. Double check the wiring going into the blue box under the hood. I'm haveing a similar weird problem that I haven't taken care of yet....my horn goes on when I put on my right turn signal. I'm going to take care of that one this spring. My mechanic thinks the problem is related to the aftermarket turn-signal switch...who knows!

Hey volksbugusa,
I did in fact, wired it all up just like as if it was still 6v...just not in the car, for my 66 has yet to be painted.
I did a "mock" set-up for all my electricals to verify that all my updates will work as original.
As for your issue, You did not mention if your switch illuminates when you turn on your switch? If it doesnt, youll have to find out why for the lil "blu-box" needs this "signal" to complete the circuit and to relay the contacts open and closed.
If the switch does illuminate but doesnt blink, then youll have to change the wattage by increasing the watts on the bulb or by putting a resister in parallel with the bulb, for the blinking operation is dependent on the aperage draw across the flasher. (This also being that the original "blu-box" is infact a good one). Example-This is the same as when you have a burned out turn signal light, the turn signals will not blink (if they are wired properly). This also includes the idiot light in the speedo.
This site was very usefull...

Ive printed out and down loaded alot of info from this site. This is also where I found my schematic for using relays on a pc board then mounted them in a broken 6v "blu-box" that still looks original!
Hope youll find this info usefull

UPDATE!
I have since discovered that the autometer replacement bulb is rated at 6.3v!
The #86 bulb was cross referenced to be 6.3v at .2a. I apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused…but! Now we may have a possible 6v flasher knob bulb option!
If anyone knows for sure that if in fact this does work, please post your findings here on this thread.
If this bulb does work, then we’ll know that its size is a T1-3/4 wedge base bulb…and with that info, there is a #70 bulb rated at 14v at .15a that may work in the 12v converted cars. I got my 12v bulb from an early 90 Harley gauge and am back to looking for what model(s) this bulb was used on.
