Now I'm even more puzzled...
Here in the Midwest, Cranking engines takes a while even on new vehicles when the temperature goes below zero and stays there. I've only owned four vws so far, and this is my first 6 volt converted to 12 volt experience. The first starter was reported bad by a vw mechanic to the tune of almost $300 ...

Used the 12 volt conversion system that also hooks up your wiper motor to a rheostat? Looks like a good idea for those of us using it as a daily driver, but I wonder if it would still eventually burn out the wiper motor. Also, my dome light stopped working. No fuses have blown, and the bulb looks go...

Solex 30 Pict 2 carburetor 12v choke vs 6v choke
Little background, My 30-pict 2 was rebuilt by me twice. Believe the second time I did do it correctly; however am concerned about whether or not the choke is 12 volt or 6 volt being as the beetle has already been converted to 12 volt. Would a 12 volt charge fry up a 6 volt choke? Kyle

Passenger seat reclining mechanism.
Mine, doesn't work so well. Think something may be broken with it, but I am not sure. Can anybody PM me a picture of what a good one looks like? Preferably a close up, 2/3rds perspective shot.

Re: Greetings from Turkey
Hi, I'm Sercan from Turkey, Istanbul and I have a '66 VW 1300 Sedan Deluxe with sunroof. It needs restoration so I'm looking for some original parts, especially interior/upholstery. It's hard to find some parts here and shipping costs are so high from U.S. to Turkey, I mean, restoring a beetle in T...

Cotter Pin?
I think, I could be wrong, but I think that there is some sort of cotter pin that hooks the speedo cable up to the drum itself. Is the end you are concerning yourself with the end that goes through the front left drum and hub? I can look at mine when I get home. Three out of the five lug bolts have ...

good question not sure if that type ant would be tune for FM/AM and I would like to be able to hide it under the trunk. but then we have all that metal in the way , I also wonder if a Sirus Sat mag ant would work? :?: That's probably a better idea. Those would definitely be easier to find, at least...

Don't jump to conclusions it's a wheel bearing. I just fixed a seized wheel cylinder in my '63. Same symptoms as a bad bearing. (Also, a separated brake lining will cause the same thing.) Before tearing everything off with a wheel puller, try to back off the brake adjusters. If the wheel then turns...

Not sure what you mean by sending unit as the '66 VW had a mechanical fuel gauge. If you mean removing the float from the tank, simply pry off the cover on the tank, disconnect the cable and remove the screws. Done. Initial attempt with blunt nosed pliers and brute force ended up almost knocking my...

I picked up a small radio to fit in the glove box it also has a plug in aux for the iPod and a SD card reader for music it was like $26 on amazon. I did not ...

Update!
I fixed the fuel gauge! :D Biggest challenge of the job was getting the cover off of the thing without damaging the vehicle, the cover, or myself. Don't let me get started about the perils of auto repair at 3:00 a.m., even in the comforts and confines of your own garage with plenty of light. For tho...

Hello from Plainfield, Indiana
Been on the forum and site for a little while now, just never got around to doing this.
I'm also itskyle on thesamba, figure that way people won't be confused.
Not my first VW, but this is my first 66.
Had a great time at the Volkstoberfest last weekend.
