Sorry to reply to this a year later but you said something that struck me as interesting. My '66 was also purchased new in Germany (Walldorf) in 1966 by a USAF captain who I in turn bought the car from. Mine also has the shoulder harness front seat belts with no lap restraints. I have the belts put ...

I had a similar situation once when I purchased a '74 bug and to my surprise received a '70 model, with seized motor, thrown in for free. The '74 was very restorable and running but the '70 had bright shiny black floorpans and was very solid. I ended up fixing a few things on the '74, selling it off...

Re: How did the project end??? (if it did??)
Hi. Was that the end of the matter?? How did your project end?? Going through restoration jobs as I am trying to gather energy, know and inspiration towards my reostoration undertaking. Hello KKV270. Do restorations ever really end? Nothing further has taken place on the restoration as of late. I g...

I've never had that happen with the brake light switch on the MC before. I have had brake lines corrode and burst however. I used to hate bleeding brakes until I bought one of these http://www.mityvac.com/ They make a plastic and a metal version, I have the metal one. I think there's an electric pow...

Hi, I found this website:
http://www.oldtimer-radio.de/
The site defaults to German, so if you want English click on the American flag. Next, click the "Shop" section. Next, select "Volkswagen" from the list then scroll down.
A bit pricey.

OK, so I bolted the pan back to the body and tightened the pan bolts snug but not to torque specifications yet. No change in the door alignment. From what I've been able to find out from the web (mostly from The Samba) one potential treatment for this issue is to ... gulp ... place blocks of wood ag...

I love seeing these cars rescued and cleaned up. Good job. When I found my car it was unfortunately stored outside hence my channels had gone soft also. I still remember the day I brought her home. I changed all the fuel lines and filter before driving it the 15 miles to my house. Once I got there I...

Possible resolution to door alignment issue?
I think I may have found the smoking gun to the driver side door issue. If I recall correctly, when I initially removed the body from the chassis back in '02 and placed it up on sawhorses I remember finding a gap on an area underneath the driver side heater channel just aft of the b-pillar. This gap...

Driver side door woes
I fitted up a spare (yes I have a spare) '66 model driver side door I had laying around and fitted it up to the car last night. The hinge pin wear is minimal on this door. With the new door fitted now the gap appears to be more correct at the A-pillar but the door alignment still droops by about 1/4...

She's been decluttered
This past week has been filled with all kinds of VW action around my house. I sold my 1956 Oval and the new owner finally picked it up on Friday 05-March. What a sad moment for me, as I've owned her for 18 years now, but I've really been toying with the idea of selling her since the early 2000's. Al...

Re: Heater again
Sorry guys. This heater is causing some headaches. A couple more bits of info if you can help please. 1. Is the heater turned on when the control nob in the car interior is screwed down or screwed up? And 2. When the heater is turned on is the head of the rear heater flap lever where the cable is a...

Ahhh, I love those old mechanical sending units!bill hauck wrote:the cap pops off and the unit itself is removable by taking out the six or eight screws (can't remember how many) very simple job. the cap just attaches the cable to the gauge.
